12,000 Kids, One Goal: College Graduation. Harlem Children's Zone

Bringing College to the Halls of Promise

This fall, HCZ launched the Bard Early College Program at Promise Academy High School.  The Bard Program is founded on the belief that many high-school students are ready and eager for the intellectual challenges of college education—and our Promise kids are just that!

After a rigorous application process, 46 freshmen and sophomores are now enrolled in intensive pre-college courses to help foster their critical thinking and writing skills, and prepare them for college-level  courses in the liberal arts and sciences during their junior and senior years.  Not only will the Program help our students develop the tools and behaviors necessary for long-term success, but earning college credits now can help them save thousands of dollars in tuition later.

In bringing college home to our kids, the Bard Early College Program is another key step in our efforts to make college part of the culture of Harlem.  For the 12,000 children in our Zone, college is the ultimate goal—and now, at Promise Academy, it is just down the hall.

Please make a gift to help us continue offering innovative, top-notch educational programming to the thousands of students across our Zone.
